More Trains More Services (MTMS) Stage 2 Waterfall Signalling Construction Test Commissioning

The More Trains More Services (MTMS) program is upgrading the South Coast Illawarra T4 rail line to create better and faster connections into Sydney and surrounding areas.

As part of the project, platforms and yards have been reconfigured and extended to accommodate larger trains and minimize freight disruptions at key locations. These enhancements allow for more frequent services, ensuring a future-ready rail network.

At Waterfall, significant modifications were required to integrate the new layout. This included decommissioning the old relay interlocking and push-button panel, removing four signalling locations, and installing:

  • Six new signalling bungalows
  • Eleven new crossovers
  • Thirty-four new track circuits
  • Twenty-five new signals
  • One new CBI interlocking
  • Over 100 upgraded assets

The construction at Waterfall took place over 12 possessions and commissioning events, culminating in a nine-day final commissioning shutdown.

JMDR contributed by installing over 80 km of internal wiring and more than 100 km of signalling cables to support the new infrastructure.
