Primary Role:

The main purpose of this role is to work with the tender and project management teams to develop project plans and schedules and ensure that work is delivered on time and within budget. Preparation of telecoms design, plans, and technical details including TSR's, ensuring compliance with all contractual and statutory requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Produce telecoms designs for rail projects
  • Analyse technical specifications and prepare technical documentation for tender bids
  • Develop technical design documentation for communications projects
  • Develop work instructions and test procedures for various communications projects
  • Develop and implement testing plans
  • Liaising with internal and external customers
  • Carrying out site surveys; and working to tight timescales as part of a high-performing team
  • Undertake the role of designer and checker where required
  • Preparation of telecoms design, plans, and technical details including TSR's, ensuring compliance with all contractual and statutory requirements
  • Mentor and supervisor other engineers within the team
  • Independent checking of non-principles design
  • Review and update internal design standards and/ or processes to achieve a continuous improvement in quality and efficiency
  • Technical evaluation of tenders, estimating and bid writing
  • Work with the tender and project management teams to develop project plans and schedules and ensure that work is delivered on time and within budget

Knowledge/Experience Requirements:

  • Significant experience in a telecoms design role
  • Diploma/bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in electrical / electronic
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience within rail systems telecoms engineering
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in railway telecoms and networking, with a proven track record of delivering multi-discipline railway infrastructure projects
  • Experience in the design of telecoms layouts and a good knowledge of conventional. technologies and the interface between processor-based systems
  • Good knowledge of railway standards
  • Experienced in the use of design software
  • Able to lead and mentor other team members
